Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
