This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller stands strong even without a sequel. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has made the children anxious. But the disconnected phone in the room continues to ring, with ghostly voices offering help, while the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for materialism in this director's brilliantly over-the-top true story about the fallen televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield acts as the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims initially, asserting religious justification for riches. Both individuals set about capitalizing on the American public's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, yet the lead actress achieves to present the character in a likable light. October 14th, late night, the Film4 channel
